Community
Overview
Slough Trading Estate is an integral part of the local community and has been for over 100 years, and SEGRO remains committed to contributing to Slough’s long-term economic vitality.
Since the 1920’s SEGRO have been investing in local good causes and charity programmes and in 2022 we launched the Slough Community Investment Plan. The plan will enable SEGRO to invest in projects over the long-term that are designed to inspire young people about the world of work, help unemployed people into work, support the growth of local businesses and create a better environment that improves the health and wellbeing of local residents.
Partnership
We will achieve this by working in partnership with our customers and suppliers as well as a range of specialist community partners
- Learning to Work
- Youth Engagement Slough
- Groundwork South
- Local Supply Chain
- FEDCAP
- YMCA St Pauls
- The Slough Hub
- SBCP
We have already started to make a great impact. Since 2022 we have:
Employment
SEGRO are committed to supporting the progression into meaningful work for local people who want to return to the workforce.
SEGRO has partnered with Fedcap Employment and The Slough Hub to promote job opportunities on the Slough Trading Estate and provide dedicated training and job brokerage support to help local people into employment.
Education
SEGRO believe that employer engagement in education should be at the centre of preparing young people for the future world of work. In partnership with Learning to Work, this programme will help inspire 12,000 students over the next three years about career opportunities in a wide range of sectors such as real estate, construction, manufacturing, and digital technology.
‘Partnering with SEGRO, a new programme has been created to support young people from across the local area to develop the skills they will need to be successful in the workplace and will inspire and excite them about careers on the Slough Trading Estate.’
- Rachael Burt, CEO - Learning to Work
Environment
We want to improve biodiversity and environment of Slough for the benefit of workers on the estate and residents in the town. Through volunteering days and by working closely with Groundwork South, SEGRO will help to revitalise 12 outdoor spaces by 2025 for the health, wellbeing, and enjoyment of the community.
‘Groundwork welcomes the opportunity to work with SEGRO, to invest in its local communities.
The aims of this programme will be:
- To engage the community in environmental activities that encourage long-term behaviour change and improve the local environment.
- To help disadvantaged, long-term unemployed and vulnerable members of the community to change their lives through accessing training, mentoring and skills support, and get them on the path to employment.’
- Sarah Reece-Mills, Director of Programmes and Partnerships - Groundwork UK
Economy
The Local Supply Chain programme is designed to encourage more local business to apply for our contracts to reflect the area’s diversity. By working closely with our supply chain partners we will provide more opportunities for SMEs to tender for small work packages that will help to retain investment in the area to support economic growth.
