SEGRO, one of the Europe's leading logistics real estate companies and EGD Logistics, Grupo Caliche's boutique logistics company, have agreed a lease for 34,200 m² of high-quality distribution and logistics space at SEGRO Logistics Park Martorelles I, located within the first ring of Barcelona.

As well as enabling EGD Logistics’ own growth in the region and the space will also play a key role for Leroy Merlin's business in Spain as it will be used, during the next years, as distribution centre for Catalonia, Aragón and the Balearic Islands. It is expected that more than 100 highly qualified people in the logistics sector will be employed at the centre and EGD Logistics will also be applying its customized approach to "Easy Business" work, in the permanent search for its customer’s satisfaction needs, making their operations easier.

The logistics platform, built on a 56,000 m² plot in 2017, was one of the first to be rated as BREEAM Very Good in Catalonia and is located in a strategic area of the Vallès Oriental, in the Can Roca Industrial Estate, just 15km from Barcelona. It has excellent connectivity, with direct access to the AP-7 Mediterranean motorway, and is close to the Montmeló Formula 1 motorsport circuit.

The design of the building responds to the company's SEGRO Responsible commitments to minimise carbon emissions. Features include photovoltaic panels on the roof to generate low carbon energy and help reduce the occupiers operating costs, open spaces with natural lighting, rest and leisure areas to support employee wellbeing, and charging stations for electric vehicles to enable greener journeys.

Marc Candela, mayor of Martorelles, announced:

"It is always great news to see the uptake of vacant units in Martorelles. In the case of EGD Logistics, a Catalan logistics company serving major international firms, it ensures stability for both the development and local employment—something we enthusiastically welcome."

Toni Armengol, CEO and founder of EGD Logistics said:

"This new platform is a key milestone in EGD Logistics' growth in the market and confirms the momentum that joining Grupo Caliche has brought, allowing us to tackle more complex initiatives, while maintaining our core values: integration with customers, empathy and trust".

David Alcázar, Managing Director of SEGRO Spain, stated:

"We’re pleased to welcome EGD Logistics to SEGRO Logistics Park Martorelles I, our first development in Catalonia. It is a modern, sustainable, and well-located logistics centre, which aligns well with EGD Logistics’ own values around the environment and communities. Furthermore, through this partnership we are able to support the Spanish operation of Leroy Merlin, a customer we know well who we work with in France, Italy and Poland ".

The deal has been brokered by the real estate consultancy Estrada & Partners and comes into force in December 2024.
