SEGRO is the first developer and owner of modern warehouse space in Poland, which, as part of pro-ecological activities, decided to install apiaries in the space of its logistics parks.

Hives were installed in SEGRO Logistics Park Warsaw, Pruszków and in SEGRO Logistics Park Poznań, Gądki. The choice of parks was dictated by their location and proximity to crops - bees pollinate as many as 3/4 of the main crops. The bee care, including periodic inspections of the hives, honey harvesting and any other beekeeping work, is performed by the Pszczelarium company. According to preliminary estimates, the bees inhabiting SEGRO parks will produce up to 200 kilograms of honey per year.

The constant development of civilization contributes to the reduction of the bee population and the disturbance of environmental biodiversity. Dedicated farms are a way to increase environmental awareness and strengthen the population of these insects, which is why SEGRO has decided to include apiaries in the activities already carried out in the field of corporate social responsibility. In addition, three SEGRO parks in Central Europe: SEGRO Logistics Park Poznań, Gołuski, SEGRO Logistics Park Warsaw, Nadarzyn and SEGRO Logistics Park Prague have built, independently by SEGRO employees as part of integration workshops, hotels for insects, where bumblebees or Butterflies.

Ecological solutions are systematically introduced in SEGRO parks. Since 2017, all outdoor areas of the parks are illuminated by energy-saving LEDs, which are currently the most efficient and environmentally friendly lighting available on the market. Recently, most parks have also been equipped with chargers for electric cars and hybrids. In turn, each new SEGRO development project in Poland is subject to rigorous BREEAM certification, under which the high quality and efficiency of the ecological solutions used are particularly important. At the time of certification, the new part of building C with an area of almost 15,000 m2 in SEGRO Logistics Park Warsaw, Nadarzyn received the BREEAM certificate at the VERY GOOD level with a result of 63.9%, which was then the best among all those achieved by warehouse facilities in Poland

Pro-ecological activities are carried out by SEGRO not only in Poland. Hives also appeared in Italy, at the Vialog Logistics Park Castel San Giovanni in Milan, and soon the bees will also live at the Slough Trading Estate, the oldest SEGRO park in Europe.
